Before you start: identify the material

• Full-grain leather: tolerates minimal moisture and specific products.
• Suede/nubuck: avoid liquids and alcohol; use eraser and brush.

Emergency protocol (0–10 minutes)

1. Do not rub dry; it will spread the pigment.
